Hot Vanilla Protein Latte
A warm vanilla latte with 30g of protein, sweetened only if you decide it should be.

You'll Need
- Small saucepan or microwave-safe jug
- Whisk or milk frother
- Mug
Ingredients
- ✓2 scoops French Vanilla Protein Coffee (one 30g serving)
- ✓1 cup milk of choice (2% dairy, oat or almond)
- ✓1 tsp honey (optional)
Instructions
- 1Warm the milk until it steams. Don't let it boil.
- 2Take it off the heat, whisk both scoops into two tablespoons of it until smooth, then add the rest.
- 3Stir in the honey if you're using it, and pour into a mug.
The cold-weather version of the one people drink all summer. Same 22g of grass-fed whey, same real arabica already in the powder, just warm and softer. The honey is a choice, not a default - there's nothing sweet in the powder, so the drink is exactly as sweet as you make it.

Why This Works
Warm milk carries vanilla in a way cold milk doesn't. Aroma compounds volatilise with heat, so the same powder that tastes mildly vanilla over ice tastes properly like a vanilla latte at 140 degrees. It's the single reason this recipe exists separately from the iced one.
The ceiling on that heat is real, though. Push the milk to a boil and the whey seizes into threads. Steaming, not bubbling, then off the heat before the powder goes in.
Tips From Our Kitchen
- If you have a milk frother, froth half the milk and pour it on top. It turns a mug of protein coffee into something that looks like it came from a cafe.
- Skip the honey the first time and taste it. Plenty of people find they don't want it once the vanilla warms up.
- A pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg does most of what honey does, without the 6g of sugar.
- Reheating separates it. Make one mug at a time.
Swaps & Variations
- Vanilla oat latte: full-fat oat milk. The creamiest dairy-free version, and it foams well.
- Dirty vanilla latte: replace 1/4 cup of the milk with hot espresso, cooled slightly, for a stronger coffee note.
- Maple instead of honey: same sweetness, warmer flavour with the vanilla.
- Vanilla chai style: steep the milk with a cinnamon stick and two cardamom pods before you add the powder.
Common Questions
How hot can the milk get before the protein clumps?
Steaming is fine, boiling is not. Once bubbles start breaking the surface you're in the range where whey seizes. Pull it off the heat, then add the powder.
Do I have to use honey?
No. It's listed as optional because there are no sweeteners in the powder at all, natural or artificial. Without it the drink is 227 calories with 0g of added sugar.
How much protein is in a hot protein latte?
30 grams - 22g from the 30g serving of French Vanilla Protein Coffee plus about 8g from the cup of milk.
Is there coffee in it?
Yes. Real arabica instant coffee is blended into the powder, about 40mg of caffeine per serving. You don't brew anything separately.
Can I make it in a milk frother that heats?
Yes, and it's the easiest way. Heat and froth the milk first, then whisk the powder in afterwards rather than putting powder into the frother.
