Iced Mocha Protein Coffee
Cold brew, real cocoa, and 26g of protein in one glass. No added sugar, no sweeteners, five minutes start to finish.

You'll Need
- Tall 16 oz glass
- Spoon or small whisk
- Handheld milk frother (optional)
Ingredients
- ✓2 scoops Mocha Protein Coffee (one 30g serving)
- ✓3/4 cup cold brew coffee, chilled
- ✓1/2 cup milk of choice (2% dairy, oat or almond)
- ✓1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder, plus more for dusting
- ✓1 cup ice cubes
Instructions
- 1Put both scoops and the cocoa powder in your glass with about two tablespoons of the cold brew. Stir into a smooth paste first - this is the step that stops clumping.
- 2Pour in the rest of the cold brew. Stir or froth 10 to 15 seconds until it's fully dissolved and lightly foamy.
- 3Fill the glass with ice.
- 4Pour the milk over the back of a spoon so it settles into a layer, dust with cocoa, and stir before your first sip.
A coffee shop iced mocha runs north of 20 grams of sugar and does nothing for your morning past the caffeine. This one goes the other way: real cold brew, real cocoa, and a serving of Mocha Protein Coffee carrying 22g of grass-fed whey and 4.5g of BCAAs. With milk it lands at 26g of protein for about 180 calories, and there's not a gram of added sugar in it.

Why This Works
Cold brew is doing more here than keeping things cold. Whey seizes in very hot liquid - you get threads instead of a smooth drink - so starting cold means it dissolves with nothing but a spoon. Cold brew is also less acidic than drip, which matters when you're putting cocoa next to it. Less bitterness fighting the chocolate.
The paste step is the whole trick. Powder hitting a full glass clumps almost every time, because the outside of each clump hydrates and seals the dry powder inside. Two tablespoons first, stirred smooth, and there's nothing left to seal.
Tips From Our Kitchen
- Freeze leftover cold brew into ice cubes and use those instead of water ice. The last third of the glass tastes like the first instead of going pale.
- Skip the frother if you want. The paste step does the real work - a spoon and fifteen seconds gets you there.
- One scoop instead of two is a real option if you're pairing this with breakfast rather than replacing it. That's 11g of protein; drop the cold brew to 1/2 cup so it doesn't go thin.
- Mix the base the night before and keep it in a jar in the fridge. It holds 24 hours. Shake, pour over fresh ice, done.
Swaps & Variations
- Iced mocha latte: flip the ratio to 3/4 cup milk, 1/4 cup cold brew. Creamier, less caffeine, a little more protein.
- Mint mocha: two drops of peppermint extract. Two. It's stronger than you think.
- If you want it sweet: there are no sweeteners in the powder, so it's on you - a teaspoon of maple syrup or honey, or two pitted dates blended in.
- Thicker, milkshake style: blend everything with the ice instead of pouring over it.
Common Questions
How much protein is in this iced mocha protein coffee?
26 grams as written - 22g from one 30g serving of Mocha Protein Coffee (that's two scoops of 100% grass-fed whey, plus 4.5g of BCAAs) and about 4g more from the 1/2 cup of milk. Made with unsweetened almond milk instead, it's 23 grams.
How many calories are in it?
About 179 with 2% milk. The powder itself is 109 calories per serving with zero grams of sugar. Use unsweetened almond milk and you're at 138; use water instead of milk and it's about 118.
Can I use hot coffee instead of cold brew?
You can, but cool it to at least room temperature first. Whey clumps in very hot liquid, and pouring hot coffee over ice dilutes the drink before you taste it. If you want it hot, make it as a hot mocha and skip the ice.
Is this sweetened?
No. Mocha Protein Coffee has zero sweeteners of any kind, natural or artificial, and the panel reads 0g of sugar. The chocolate comes from a natural dark chocolate flavor against real arabica. The 6g of sugar in the finished drink is lactose from the milk - swap to unsweetened almond and it's 0g.
How much caffeine is in it?
About 40mg from the powder, roughly half a standard cup of coffee. Whatever cold brew you add sits on top of that, and cold brew strength varies a lot by brand, so your coffee sets the total. Use cold water instead and you're back to about 40mg.
