You'll Need

  • Wide-mouth jar with a lid
  • Small whisk or fork

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 2 scoops Mocha Protein Coffee (one 30g serving)
  • 2/3 cup milk of choice
  • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. 1Whisk the protein coffee into the milk first, in the jar, until fully dissolved. Do this before the oats go in.
  2. 2Add the oats, yogurt, chia and salt. Stir well.
  3. 3Seal and refrigerate at least 6 hours, ideally overnight.
  4. 4Stir in the morning. If it's thicker than you want, loosen with a splash of milk.

This is the most protein in anything on the site - 42 grams, in a jar you assemble in three minutes before bed. It also handles your coffee, since the arabica is already in the powder. There's no added sugar in it at all; the 10g on the label is lactose from the milk and yogurt.

Why This Works

Order matters. Whisk the powder into the milk before anything else goes in the jar - once the oats and chia are there, they trap dry powder in pockets that never hydrate, and you'll find them in the morning. Thirty seconds of whisking first solves it permanently.

The chia is doing structural work, not decoration. It absorbs roughly ten times its weight in liquid, which is what turns this from soggy cereal into something spoonable and thick. It also adds most of the 9g of fibre, which is why 455 calories keeps you going until lunch rather than to 10am.

Tips From Our Kitchen

  • Make four jars on Sunday. They hold four days in the fridge and get better on day two.
  • Rolled oats, not instant and not steel-cut. Instant turns to paste, steel-cut never softens.
  • The pinch of salt matters more than it should. Without it the whole thing tastes flat.
  • Want it lighter? Half a serving of powder gives you 31g of protein at 350 calories.

Swaps & Variations

  • Vanilla latte oats: French Vanilla Protein Coffee and 1/2 tsp vanilla extract.
  • Matcha oats: High Protein Matcha with oat milk. Looks incredible in a clear jar.
  • Peanut butter mocha: a tablespoon of natural peanut butter takes it to 50g of protein.
  • Dairy-free: almond milk and coconut yogurt. You'll drop to about 37g of protein.

Common Questions

How much protein is in protein overnight oats?

42 grams in this version - 22g from one 30g serving of Mocha Protein Coffee, plus the Greek yogurt, milk, oats and chia. It's the highest-protein recipe in our collection.

Why is my protein powder clumping in the oats?

Because it went in after the oats. Whisk the powder into the milk first, on its own, then add everything else. Dry powder trapped between oats never hydrates properly overnight.

Does it have caffeine?

Yes, about 40mg from the arabica coffee in the powder - roughly half a standard cup. So this is breakfast and part of your coffee in one jar.

How long do they keep?

Four days in a sealed jar in the fridge. Make a batch on Sunday and you have breakfast sorted through Wednesday.

Is there added sugar?

None. The powder has zero sweeteners and 0g of sugar, and the oats and chia add none. The 10g on the label is lactose from the milk and Greek yogurt - use unsweetened almond milk and coconut yogurt and it drops to about 2g.
