Vanilla Protein Frappé
The blended coffee-shop drink, rebuilt with 28g of protein and none of the 50g of sugar.

You'll Need
- Blender
- Handheld milk frother
- Tall glass
Ingredients
- ✓2 scoops French Vanilla Protein Coffee (one 30g serving)
- ✓3/4 cup milk of choice (2% dairy, oat or almond)
- ✓1 1/2 cups ice
- ✓1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- ✓2 tbsp heavy cream, for the cold foam
- ✓A pinch of cinnamon, to finish
Instructions
- 1Blend the milk, protein coffee and vanilla for 15 seconds on their own, until fully dissolved.
- 2Add the ice and blend on high 30 to 45 seconds, until it's a thick, even slush with no ice chunks.
- 3Froth the heavy cream for 20 seconds with a handheld frother until it thickens but still pours.
- 4Pour the frappe into a tall glass, float the cold foam on top, dust with cinnamon.
A vanilla frappuccino from a chain runs somewhere near 50 grams of sugar and gives you about 5 grams of protein for it. This is the same drink - blended slush, cold foam cap, cinnamon on top - at 28g of protein and zero added sugar. It's the closest thing on the site to a straight swap for something people buy weekly.

Why This Works
The ratio is what makes it a frappe and not a milkshake: roughly two parts ice to one part liquid. Less ice and it stays a drink; more and the blender can't move it. Blend the powder into the milk before the ice goes in, or you'll be grinding dry powder against ice cubes and it never fully dissolves.
Cold foam is just heavy cream frothed cold, without heat or sugar. Twenty seconds with a handheld frother thickens it to the point where it sits on top rather than sinking. That's the entire trick behind a drink people pay an extra dollar for.
Tips From Our Kitchen
- Frothing the cream too long turns it into whipped cream and it stops pouring. Twenty seconds, then stop.
- Coffee ice cubes instead of water ice make the whole thing taste stronger and stop it going pale.
- A high-powered blender gives you a smooth slush; a weaker one gives you a chunky one. Pulse it if yours struggles.
- Drink it right away. Frappes separate within about ten minutes.
Swaps & Variations
- Mocha frappe: Mocha Protein Coffee and 1 tsp cocoa powder.
- Matcha frappe: High Protein Matcha with oat milk. Bright green and excellent.
- Skip the cream: 203 calories, 7g fat, same 28g of protein.
- Caramel-style: a teaspoon of maple syrup in the foam and a pinch of salt on top.
Common Questions
How does this compare to a Frappuccino?
A grande vanilla frappuccino is roughly 370 calories, 51g of sugar and 5g of protein. This is 303 calories, 0g of added sugar and 28g of protein - and 203 calories if you skip the cold foam.
How do I make the cold foam?
Froth 2 tbsp of cold heavy cream with a handheld frother for about 20 seconds, until it thickens but still pours. No heat, no sugar. Stop before it becomes whipped cream.
Do I need a special blender?
Any blender that crushes ice will do it. A weaker one just needs pulsing rather than running continuously, and the result will be slightly chunkier.
Why did mine separate?
Frappes always do, within about ten minutes. That's the ice melting out of suspension, not a fault in the recipe. Make it when you're ready to drink it.
Is it sweetened?
No. The powder contains no sweeteners of any kind and 0g of sugar. The 10g on the label is lactose from the milk and cream. Add a teaspoon of maple syrup if you want it sweeter.
